SERBIAN PHARMACISTS FIGHTING AGAINST CANDIDIASIS
Fast-paced lifestyle and inadequate diet provoke persistent and repeated problems caused by candida. A team of pharmacists and technologists at Phytonet with the financial support of European Union, managed to solve this frequent problem.

In cooperation with the Institute of molecular genetics and genetic engineering, a team of experts has developed a unique CandBerrol preparation that contains Chilean maqui berry extract, a source of high amount of the ingredients with pronounced biological effects. Through the development of an innovative solution, the scientists of the Phytonet team discovered that this herbal extract has great potential in the treatment of oral candidiasis. The final effect of the Product use is the changing the pathogenic potential of the Candida. In this way, biological balance is achieved in the oral cavity and, although Candida is not completely eliminated from the oral cavity, a constant cycle of treatment and re-infection is avoided and overuse of antimycotics and subsequent onset of resistance is avoided.
The results from the Market research indicate advantages of use of this innovative formula, particularly in high risk and highly vulnerable groups, such as patients on constant antibiotic therapy, babies and mothers who have problems with candida or patients who have periodontal implants and prosthetic bridges.
With the support of the Innovation Fund through Matching Grants Programe, the company was able to complete the production process and ensure safe, secure and efficient production of CandBerrol preparation.
"A part of the funds was invested into equipping manufacturing site, since the production of CandBeroll requires certain specific ambient conditions, while the rest was used for implementation of an automated production line that ensures fast and safe production process and Product stability during its shelf life" pointed out in Phytonet.
Research, development, and launching of another innovative Product to the World Market is the next step for the team of Serbian Phytonet. The new preparation will be a combination of probiotics isolated from the region of Balkan Countries and CandBeroll. After quite some time, this will be a unique combination that will include authentic probiotic strain from Balkan region, and Phytonet team is developing it under the code name "Serbian probiotic for Serbian guts".
Direct Grant Agreement - Development of new products and services by SMEs through the commercialization of research, signed between the Innovation Fund and the Ministry of Finance (Sector for Contracting and Financing Programs from European Union Funds), provides funds for continued implementation of the Early Development Program and the Co-financing Innovation Program. The total value of the Direct Grant Agreement is 4.5 million euros, of which 2.5 million euros are financed from the European Union Pre-Accession Funds for 2014, while 2 million euros are provided from the budget of the Republic of Serbia, from the Ministry of education, science and technological development.
